As is every weekend in Austin, TX, we’re faced with a myriad of amazing musical choices. From blues on some grass, funk on 6th or metal where the river runs red, decisions must be made but that’s why Eye in the Sky is here- to help you navigate the noise and find your way to the best shows.
This weekend (well, the college weekend) begins Thursday appropriately with old San Marcos friends Antiques having their EP release at the ND with Auroravore and The Warplanes. Expect some indie/prog shredding in the vein of White Denim or newer Incubus.
Up next on Friday is The Eastern Sea’s much anticipated album release show for “Plague”. If you haven’t got a chance to hear this record, this band of dynamic performers, DO SO NOW. You can stream the album and check out a great interview with band leader Matt Hines on MTV Hive, where he discusses the personal economies of our modern ego. Give a little, take a little then who are you anymore?! Joining The Eastern Sea will be Dana Falconberry.
Oh Saturday! Here’s where there things really get funky. Austin’s beloved Soul Track Mind brings the funk-soul-brother action for their 4th anniversary to The Parish with Emily Bell and Graham Wilkinson.
Also, that night our pals Quiet Company will be reliving the past with a 3 set show rehashing their past catalog. Promises to be nostalgic with special guests, Boy + Kite at Hotel Vegas.
And finally, Sunday Funday brings us Leslie Fest, celebrating Austin staple- the late, great Leslie. Lipstick 24, Empire Auto and the Big “O” patio set the stage for a dozen bands, food from Frank, photobooths and commerative thongs- all benefiting Hospice Austin’s Christopher House. Its what Leslie would have wanted.
Whichever you choose, ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!
